There's Just Something About Colorado
Colorado has a way of getting into your heart and staying there. I love the mountain air, the changing seasons, childhood memories on skis, and Broncos Sundays. Here are a few reasons this state feels like home.
Higher Altitude, Bigger Views
Denver is the Mile High City at 5,280 feet, and here in Northern Colorado I love that clear mountain air and the sight of the Front Range against a big blue sky. Even an ordinary drive can feel like a scenic tour.
Four Distinct Seasons—and Christmas That Feels Like Christmas
Spring brings fresh green foothills, summer offers long outdoor days, fall turns the aspens gold, and winter brings snow-covered peaks. I especially love when Christmas looks and feels like Christmas. Of course, Colorado sometimes manages to fit several seasons into a single afternoon!
From Skiing as a Kid to Photographing Rocky Mountain National Park
I loved skiing when I was growing up. These days, I prefer visiting Rocky Mountain National Park with a camera. Elk in the meadows, alpine lakes, dramatic peaks, and constantly changing light mean there's always another photograph waiting to happen. Trail Ridge Road even climbs above 12,000 feet. I'm still chasing mountain adventures—just with a camera instead of skis.
Catch-and-Release Trout on the Fryingpan
One of my favorite places to fish is the Fryingpan River near Basalt. Its clear water, trout, and spectacular setting make a day of fly fishing memorable whether or not the fish cooperate. I love the challenge of the catch—and the satisfaction of releasing a beautiful trout back into the water.
Broncos Country, Then and Now
I grew up watching John Elway and have loved the Denver Broncos ever since. From thrilling comebacks to the back-to-back Super Bowl wins following the 1997 and 1998 seasons, those memories are part of my Colorado story. I'm still cheering for the orange and blue. Some Sundays require a little extra patience, but that's loyalty!
John Denver and the Music of Colorado
Becoming a lifelong fan of John Denver has been one of the great joys of living here. So many of his songs are about Colorado: the mountains, the rivers, the wide open sky, and the feeling of belonging to a place. When I hear his music, I'm reminded of why I love this state so much. This is one of my favorites, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Why Colorado Feels Like Home
Colorado means childhood days on snowy slopes, frosty Christmas mornings, a camera aimed at wildlife, a trout rising to a fly, and the excitement of Broncos football. There are always new places to explore and new memories to make.
Your Turn!
What do you love most about where you live? The seasons, scenery, fishing, sports teams, or something else? And if you've visited Colorado, what was your favorite experience? I'd love to hear about it!
